The weekly report furnished giving the
progress of the trial works of the proposed site of the dan
for the new Tytan reservoir shows as the result of 108 prick-
ings that the average depth to the rock bottom will be 42 feet
below the sand level. The area of the seabed to be taken in
is 39 acres. The whole of this sand to the rock is impregnated
with salt. I think it will be well to have expert views as to
the possible effect of this salt upon the fresh water to be
collected, which will ultimately cover it to the depth of
60 feet. Perhaps Mr. Chadwick may be in a position to say. I
shall be glad to have advice on the matter before the work of
building the dam is undertaken.
I have the honour to be,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
20.
